Yorkshire PPP will see new Pinderfield gets an acute inpatients, Pontefract a diagnostic and treatment centre

Balfour Beatty has confirmed it will take on a 拢311m Private Public Partnership project to deliver a hospital development in West Yorkshire.

The firm鈥檚 PPP healthcare vehicle, Consort Healthcare, signed off on all formalities for the NHS Trust's Pinderfields and Pontefract Hospitals Development Project on 28 June.

Balfour Beatty and its building services arm Haden Young will build the hospitals. The acute inpatient hospital in Pinderfield is expected to open in 2009, and the Pontefract diagnostic and treatment centre will open in 2010. Haden Young will also provide facilities management for the hospitals.

Balfour Beatty will invest up to 拢15m of equity in the project. Chief executive Ian Tyler said: 鈥淲hen complete, the project will enable the transformation of hospital services across Wakefield and Pontefract and the optimisation of services at Dewsbury District Hospital to achieve the Trust's ambitions of high-quality patient care.鈥

Consort Healthcare is a joint venture between Balfour Beatty and the Royal Bank of Scotland and is now the PPP concession company for nine major hospitals worth 拢123m.
