Firm to start later this summer on Kent scheme
Balfour Beatty has nabbed a 拢50m contract to design and build a high-voltage substation near Littlebrook Power Station in Kent.
The five year contract will see Britain鈥檚 largest construction firm replace a 400kV substation near the Dartford Crossing for National Grid.
The scheme will include ground engineering works, installation of cables and overhead lines and design of the switchgear 鈥 a circuit board used to protect and isolate electrical equipment.
Work will begin later this summer and finish in winter 2023 鈥 with around 100 people set to work on the job at peak construction.
The oil and coal-fired power station first began operating in the 1930s but shut four years ago. Demolition contractor Brown and Mason is carrying out work to tear down the building in a series of stages with completion due next year.
