Firm to maintain roads in Suffolk

Contractor Balfour Beatty has been named preferred bidder for a 拢500m highway maintenance contract with Suffolk council.

The firm鈥檚 Living Places arm will be responsible for the design and implementation of highway maintenance in the county for the next ten years - though the council will review the contract in five years.

Balfour Beatty will also provide improvement works to street lighting, traffic signals and bridge works.

The firm beat out a field of four other competitors to win the job.

Councillor Guy McGregor, Suffolk County Council鈥檚 cabinet member for roads and transport, said: 鈥淲e are committed to ensuring the best service is delivered to residents, businesses and road users across the county throughout this contract.

As preferred bidder, Balfour Beatty Living Places is the company which submitted the very best bid both in terms of price and quality. It will provide excellent value for money for the residents of Suffolk.鈥

The council hopes to achieve 拢2m of revenue savings each year through the appointment of a single contractor for the job.

The contract starts on 1 April 2013.
