Contractor-led consortium appointed for Greater Gabbard will also maintain the link as part of 20-year licence
A Balfour Beatty-led consortium has won a £317m contract to link Greater Gabbard wind farm off the coast of Suffolk to the power grid.
The contractor will be responsible for maintenance and repairs of the link over the course of a 20-year licence.
Balfour Beatty is responsible for £480m of offshore windfarm transmission assets across the UK, with a combined capacity of 804 MW.
Once financial close on the Greater Gabbard contract has been reached, Balfour Beatty will jointly own the asset.
The other partners in the scheme are Equitix and AMP Capital.
The contractor has also recently been selected by Ofgem to participate in the next round of bidding for three more offshore transmission assets with a combined capital value of £1bn.
