Terminal 1 team to battle it out against president's campaign team for international award
The project management team in charge of redeveloping Heathrow’s Terminal 1 building are to battle it out with the presidential campaign team for recent Nobel prize-winner Barack Obama for an international project management award next week.
The BAA team, which was responsible for delivering the £60m project must deliver a presentation to the Project Management Institute’s Global Congress. Julian Foster and David Buisson, two members of the T1 project team will fly to Orlando to attend the awards ceremony and give the presentation.
The team is up for the award after facing a series of tough challenges and tight deadlines on the redevelopment of Heathrow Terminal 1 including working around the 20 million passengers who use Terminal 1 every year despite completing major works such as the removal of original check-in islands, moving the desks and installing more self-service facilities.
Foster, programme director at BAA, said: “Going head to head with President Obama's campaign team was the last thing on our minds as we redeveloped Terminal 1, but we relish the challenge and can we win this? Yes we can!"
“The work at Terminal 1 was complex but rewarding and the excellent team delivered the project back to passengers and airlines, on time and on budget."
