The plan will transform the derelict power station and its surroundings with a £1bn architectural and landscaping programme. The first phase is due to be completed in 2008.
Arup's masterplan includes 81,000 m2 of residential accommodation, 50,000 m2 of office space, a 2000-seat theatre and two hotels with a total of more than 1000 rooms. The scheme also includes the refurbishment of the power station.
The buildings on the site will be connected by a series of undulating parks, a continental-style public galleria, underground walkways and a glazed bridge.
Arup is designing the East and West hotels itself, but has teamed up with other architects and designers for various parts of the scheme.
Designer Sceno Plus is collaborating on the theatre in the south park and architect Benson & Forsyth will work with Arup on the residential development. Reid Architects has also joined forces with Arup to develop the south park element of the masterplan and the design of two multistorey office buildings.
Grimshaw will work with Arup on the refurbishment of the power station itself.
