Suspended ceiling supplier Armstrong World Industries has launched a system to meet the stiff hygiene requirements of hospital operating theatres and laboratories
The Clean Room Grid, which joins the firm鈥檚 Bioguard range, has ISO 4 particle cleanliness classification and offers a complete solution to specifiers.
Rob Gardiner, Armstrong鈥檚 technical sales manager for the UK and Ireland, says: 鈥淐leanroom environments need to have controlled concentrations of particles to ensure the air quality is well managed. We have created the Clean Room Grid and improved the range of tiles because all building materials used in cleanrooms, including the ceiling system, should have no detrimental effect on the air quality.鈥
Cleanrooms require two types of air management. Some rooms need positive pressure to avoid pollutants such as dust entering; others need negative pressure to avoid viruses or bacteria spreading beyond the room. Armstrong鈥檚 products meet both these requirements.
The product comes in 24mm-wide sections and a PVC sealing gasket is added to the grid during manufacturing. Its cross tees, hold-on clips, perimeter trim and main runner have been designed with air control in mind.
Armstrong has also improved the antibacterial performance, water-repellent properties and high cleanroom performance level of the Bioguard Acoustic tile.
