Gillian Beckingham is cleared of manslaughter following legionnaires outbreak in which five people died

Gillian Beckingham, the architect at the centre of a case involving the deaths of at least five people from legionnaires鈥 disease has been cleared of manslaughter.

Beckingham has instead been fined 拢15,000 after over 172 people were infected with the disease due to a faulty air conditioning system that she was accused of not checking properly.

The system was spewing deadly bacteria into the air at the Forum 28 Arts Centre in the town of Barrow, Cumbria.

Barrow Borough Council has also been fined 拢125,000.
