Jonathan Wilson, formerly a partner in David Morley Architects, has been poached by US architect Anshen + Allen. He will become director of its 65-strong London healthcare division
His first job will be to work with Balfour Beatty on a 拢200m PFI bid to build a 289-bed extension to Papworth hospital near Cambridge. Invitations to tender are expected in March.
Wilson said his longer term aim was to broaden the division鈥檚 healthcare projects to 鈥渆ven out fluctuations in demand鈥 for specialist facilities. He said: 鈥淎s well as major acute hospitals, we would like to tackle polyclinics, primary care centres, mental health centres and children鈥檚 hospitals.鈥
Anshen + Allen works exclusively on healthcare, education and laboratory projects. Wilson said the staff of the London office has grown from 80 in 2006 to 101 at present; over the past year the capital value of its workload has risen from 拢1bn to 拢1.7bn.
Until November, Wilson headed the design element of Skanska鈥檚 拢280m PFI bid for Southmead hospital in north Bristol. Skanska was in a consortium that included architects Nightingale Associates and Greenhill Jenner.
