Lovell and Leadbitter are big movers as overall construction activity dips 3%
Amey Construction topped the contractor league table, including civils, for the first month of 2013 after bagging a £600m Great Western main line rail electrification contract.
The £600m job was the contractor’s only project win for January, but was enough to see it take top spot in the contractor’s league table, including civils.
Balfour Beatty was in second place with 19 project wins totalling £233m, which included a £160m M25 upgrade scheme for Connect Plus.
Kier retained top spot in the league table, excluding civils, with 67 project wins totalling £209m, edging out Laing O’Rourke in second place, with six project wins totalling £204m.
Lovell Partnerships was a big mover last month, up from 33rd in December 2012 to fourth place in the league table, excluding civils, with three wins totalling £154m, including a £100m housing-led mixed-use scheme for Derby Cityscape and a £50m housing scheme in Blackpool.
Leadbitter also soared up the table, taking third place (excluding civils) and fifth overall (including civils), with 21 project wins totalling £178m. These included a £46m housing scheme for the Central Chelmsford Development Agency, and a £17m housing scheme in Brighton for Hyde Housing.
Overall the CPA/Barbour ABI construction index dropped to 107 in January, down from 110 in December, representing a 3% fall in activity. This is the second month of falls, after the index dropped from 113 in November - a fall that had ended a three-month upward trend.
