Design by Martha Schwartz has been controversial because it will involve building over historic Union Terrace Gardens

Aberdeen residents are set to be consulted about controversial plans for a new square designed by US landscape architect Martha Schwartz, and proposed by energy magnate Sir Ian Wood, head of the Wood Group.

The 拢140m Civic Square development would be built over the city's historic Union Terrace Gardens, but business leaders say it would revitalise the centre of Aberdeen and create a heart for the city.
