A huge new B&Q distribution centre has been told 鈥檡ou can do it鈥 by planning officers at Swindon council.
B&Q has been given the go-ahead for a massive 拢77m distribution centre in Swindon.
The 800,000 sq ft building will be on the G Park site on the outskirts of the town. Developer Gazeley is running the project and was given the planning green light by Swindon Borough Council this week.
Bowmer & Kirkland, McLaren and Volker Fitzpatrick are bidding for the construction part of the development, which is worth around 拢30m.
One of the contractors said: 鈥淚t鈥檚 at the sensitive stages of the process at the moment, but I鈥檇 anticipate hearing who has won sometime next week.鈥
Gazeley project chief, Nigel Godfrey said: 鈥淲e are delighted with Swindon Borough Council鈥檚 decision to approve the planning application. We look forward to starting on site in the autumn and will complete the facility by next summer.
鈥淎s well as reducing the environmental impact of the development, Gazeley has sought to ensure that the building will deliver significant annual operating cost savings for B&Q through reduced energy consumption.鈥
The new centre is due to be completed by next summer and should be fully operational by January 2012.
