UK chief exec to be replaced immediately after global boss dissatisfied with British first-half loss

Skanska UK chief executive David Fison has been replaced after the construction company reported an operating loss of 拢41.5m in the first six months of 2008.

He will be replaced with immediate effect by Mats Williamson, who moves from his role as president of Skanska Sweden.

The loss followed a writedown of 拢19.6m on a problem PFI hospital job in the second quarter of the year. The first quarter saw a writedown of 拢30m

Johan Karlstrom, chief executive of the Skanska group, said: 鈥淭he results in these projects are clearly unsatisfactory. We will therefore change our processes and procedures within Skanska UK.

Over the six months, turnover at Skanska UK rose 9% from 拢695m to 拢758m.

Over the same period, the global group boosted its turnover by 8% from 拢5.3bn to 拢5.7bn while operating profit rose 10% from 拢183m to 拢202m.
