Kings Waterfront regeneration project designed by Wilkinson Eyre is given the go-ahead.
The 拢390m Kings waterfront scheme has been given planning consent Detailed planning approval was granted for the civic facilities, public realm and public infrastructure on the 14.6-hectare site, which is owned by regeneration company Liverpool Vision and its partners English Partnerships, Northwest Regional Development Agency and Liverpool City Council.
The architect Wilkinson Eyre designed the civic buildings including a 9,180 capacity multi-purpose arena, a conference centre with a 1,350-seat auditorium, a 7,600sq m exhibition facility, a new public piazza, two hotels, a 1,600 multi-storey car park, and 96 apartments.
Liverpool Vision chief excecutive Jim Gill said: 鈥淭his is a major step forward for this strategically important site for the city region. The Kings Waterfront development will undoubtedly enhance the city鈥檚 reputation on a world stage, and is a vital component of Capital of Culture Celebrations in 2008.鈥
Outline planning permission was also granted for land that will contain 1,800 residential units with retail and leisure space attached as well as 18,000sq m of commercial office space.
