No movement in top two slots of the contractors league table but new entries dominate Top 10
Balfour Beatty retained top spot in the contractors league table last month, with a 拢390m contract haul.
The firm topped the contractors league table, including civils, after securing 55 projects worth 拢390m, as well as the league table excluding civils, with a 40-project haul totalling 拢288m.
The firm鈥檚 contract wins included the 拢121m Greenwich Peninsula Hotel for Grove Developments; the 拢42m job to rebuild the roof on the Olympic stadium; and a 拢77m student accommodation scheme for Urbanest in west London.
Balfour Beatty also moved into top spot in the yearly work won table, with a total haul of 拢2.5bn over the past year, with last month鈥檚 leader Laing O鈥橰ourke slipping to fifth place.
Kier retained second spot in both contractors tables, with a total contract haul of 拢230m across 50 projects, while Lovell took third spot with a 拢171m haul, moving up from 12th.
Lovell鈥檚 wins included a 拢150m housing estate regeneration project for Greenwich council.
Other big movers were Bam (fourth), Amey (fifth) and Winvic Group (ninth), all of which did not make the Top 50 last month.
Overall the CPA/Barbour ABI construction index fell from 119 in June to 109 - which is equivalent to an 8% drop.
The index, compiled by the Construction Products Association (CPA) using data from construction information provider Barbour ABI, measures contract awards and uses a January 2010 base of 100. CPA economics director Noble Francis said the fall was largely due to a return to normal after a spike in activity after the weather-affected first quarter.
