The Olympic Delivery Authority has released HOK's designs of London's 2012 stadium
The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) today unveiled HOK Sport's design of the stadium of the 2012 London Olympics and Paralympics. It will hold 25,000 permanent and 55,000 temporary seats, allowing for the stadium to be used as a local venue after the Games.
The main feature of the design is a sunken bowl built into the field, surrounded by permanent spectators鈥 seats. The stadium covers two thirds of the spectators with a cable supported roof and is wrapped by a fabric curtain to ensure additional protection.
Olympics minister Tessa Jowell said: 鈥淲e will ensure that the Olympic stadium leaves a lasting legacy for London and the UK 鈥 a flexible venue with athletics at its heart, but also capable of multi-sport, educational and community use鈥.
London mayor Ken Livingstone added: 鈥淚t is a beacon symbolising the extraordinary transformation and regeneration of east London as a result of staging the 2012 Games鈥.
The stadium will host the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as the athletic competitions.
