Photos on Twitter show construction sites bustling with workers despite much of the rest of the country entering a state of lockdown.

Many workers returned to sites this morning amid confusion following Boris Johnson鈥檚 address to the nation last night, in which he ordered the country to enter a state of lockdown but did not say if that applied to building sites.

Cabinet ministers, including communities secretary Robert Jenrick last night and Michael Gove this morning, clarified that sites could remain open.

Some companies are beginning to announce closures.

This crowded site is purported to be a biomass power station in Teesside today.

The photos below were collected by Dan Dobson, an electrician and trade union activist, and show building work across several major London sites yesterday apparently continuing regardless of the pandemic. Some could now be in the process of closing as firms take their own action.

Offices across the UK are empty as staff work from home, most schools have been shut, and cafes, restaurants, gyms and leisure centres have closed. But work at these building sites continued as normal.

This site is purported to be Skanska鈥檚 80 Fenchurch Street yesterday, showing workers packed into the canteen despite government warnings to stay at least 2m apart to prevent the spread of the highly contagious virus.
