The latest QS league table from Barbour ABI sees the international firm jump to third place while hotel and government contracts help keep Davis Langdon in pole position

Gleeds has leaped ahead in this month’s ranking of QSs by workload. The firm has jumped by one position into third place, knocking rival Gardiner & Theobald down from third into fourth.

Gleeds has £636m of work on its books for the year to date, from 59 projects. This is a significant improvement on last month’s 52 projects totalling £553m.

The firm recently scooped a role on the BBC’s media complex project in Salford Quays, Manchester. The development of the 20-acre site is due for completion by 2010. The firm has also been appointed as a QS on a new four-year Welsh NHS framework called Designed for Life: ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉúTV for Wales.

G&T by contrast is down by one project to 63 jobs worth £585m.

But both firms lag Davis Langdon, which continues to have a stranglehold on the number one slot. This month the firm reported 111 schemes on its books for the year to date, adding up to a total of £1.3bn.

Davis Langdon’s workload includes the Silken Hotel in London, worth £70m and the Immigration and Nationality Directorate in Sheffield, worth around £30m.

In our exclusive ranking of project managers, Birmingham City Council is leading, with Mace in hot pursuit.

Birmingham is also second in our ranking of clients, while the top client is Defence Estates.
