Buro Happold is to provide the structural, services, ground and facades engineering for 1 New York Street in Manchester, due to open in autumn 2009.
The building, formerly owned by the Royal Bank of Scotland, will provide 100,000 ft2 of office space and utilises glass and aluminium cladding, and extensive use of natural light.
The building has also been awarded a BREEAM rating of 鈥楨xcellent鈥.
Helen Gribbon, Buro Happold鈥檚 project leader, said: 鈥淣ot only are we treading more lightly on the environment; we are also reducing the long-term running costs of the building, and so making savings for our client. We aim to cut the carbon emissions on 1 New York Street by 16% compared to a similar office building and building regulations.鈥
The office development is part of a street-wide refurbishment by property firm Bruntwood, which will also see the pavement expanded, trees planed and new lighting installed.
