This week, new flooring solutions include a vinyl range targeting the education market, Forbury Place鈥檚 choice of access flooring in Reading and an aluminium decking system at Manchester鈥檚 XYZ building
Access Flooring
Kingspan Access Floors is installing more than 17,000m2 of access flooring in the second phase of the Forbury Place development, Reading鈥檚 newest urban business district. The building will provide category-A office space over seven floors, which will be built during phase two on top of a basement car park already established in phase one. Kingspan Contracts鈥 work on installing the RMG600 panels on all floors of the building is due to be completed this month.

- Mapei has released a brochure for wood flooring products and installation systems. Along with an easy-to-use selection chart for wood flooring, the products needed in each system are listed along with their technical characteristics. The literature contains information on Mapei鈥檚 product range, from primers and surface membranes to silliated and polyurethane adhesives. - Tiling solutions manufacturer BAL has launched a RIBA-approved CPD seminar on external tiling to balconies and terraces. The seminar, first showcased at this year鈥檚 Surface Design Show, provides specifiers with an overview of external tiled living spaces, how to ensure perfect lifelong installations and comparison of available assemblies and system design. BAL鈥檚 CPD has been put together following the launch of the company鈥檚 external tiling solutions from sister company Gutjahr, which provides drainage of external tiled surfaces.
- Millboard庐, manufacturer of wood-free outdoor flooring, has released volume two of its architectural guide. As well as providing in-depth detail on the entire Millboard Collection and material safety datasheets, it features key technical data and the resin mineral board profile of the Millboard substrate. It explains the pendulum test values, slip resistance values and outlines working specifications and applications for residential, commercial and public space projects.
- 好色先生TV boards manufacturer Fermacell has launched a guide to planning and installing its dry flooring systems. The 64-page manual gives advice on flooring exposed to moisture and humidity, where Fermacell鈥檚 cement-based Powerpanel H2O can be specified. A step-by-step guide details this particular installation procedure.

Forbo Flooring Systems has launched a homogeneous vinyl range targeting the education sector: the Sphera Energetic. End users are presented with a colour proposition consisting of 52 shades: 41 鈥渇lecked鈥 colours alongside 11 complementary 鈥渧ivid鈥 hues, which feature corresponding highlight chips to create an integrated flooring solution. The company claims that with low emissions and high light reflectance values, the phthalate-free collection will help contribute to a stimulating yet healthy indoor environment for any educational establishment. Sphera Energetic is manufactured using SMART (Sustainable Modern Advanced Robust Technology) technology.

Water repellent protector
Surface care specialist Fila has launched a water-repellent protector for outdoor surfaces. The Hydrorep Eco is a solvent-free treatment for surfaces spanning from stone pavers to exposed brick walls. The company says it protects against water, weathering and efflorescence, and also hampers the build-up of algae, moulds and lichen. The Hydrorep Eco is a ready-to-use one-coat treatment that is applied by brush or airless pump. It is available in one-litre and five-litre containers and provides coverage of 10m2-20m2 per litre on all surfaces apart from concrete, where coverage is 8m2-10m2.

Lancashire-based injection mould and tool making specialist, Patterson & Rothwell, has launched Versatile, a commercial floor tile. The company says the PVC 500mm x 6mm interlocking floor tile is ideal for a variety of industrial and commercial uses, including gyms, hospitals and schools, due to its durability, anti-slip qualities and chemical resistance. Available in eight colours, Versatile is flame retardant with a shore hardness of 92 and has a guarantee for 10 years.

Antimicrobial resin floor
John Lord has introduced BioCote technology to its resin flooring range. The technology is manufactured into the floors to create a surface on which microbes, such as bacteria and mould, cannot survive. The company claims that thanks to BioCote, it is able to achieve up to a 99.99% reduction in bacteria in 24 hours, making the floors more hygienic and cleaning more efficient, while keeping bacteria at bay in down time.

Wool carpet specialist Axminster Carpets has introduced three more colours to its Devonia collection. Advertised as a range of rich, solid colours from classic creams and greys to expressive greens and blues, the Devonia collection is joined by the new 鈥榙iamond鈥, 鈥榣atte鈥 and 鈥榦akwood鈥 colourways. The company claims that the new colours will provide an additional feeling of comfort that is guaranteed to bring warmth to a space.

Neaco鈥檚 Techdek aluminium decking system has been specified for an internal cycle park at the XYZ building, a project providing a striking commercial and leisure amenity in Manchester. Comprising 14,860m2, XYZ was designed by Cartwright Pickard Architects to serve cutting-edge working culture and embrace the lifestyle needs of contemporary business. The Neaco Techdek system was used for the building鈥檚 cycle ramp. The company says its product was chosen because of its robust construction and simplicity of design.

Resin Flooring
Sika has provided its SikaFloor solution for the Newmarket, Suffolk, branch of a Mercedes-Benz van and truck dealership. Sikafloor was applied to the busy service area of the workshop. After applying the Sikafloor 161 primer, IRL applied two coats of solvent-free, high-build epoxy Sikafloor 264. The company says its product was chosen as it is durable and easy to maintain. This matched the requirements of the project, which was for a flooring product to deliver easy clean and anti-slip properties while providing a fast and simple application.
