Textile flooring

Forbo Flooring Systems have added a range of colour and design options to their Flotex range of high tech textile flooring. Flotex Linear encompasses a colour palette aimed at commercial office spaces. Forbo says that the linear pattern is designed to fit in with the angular faces and facades of commercial architecture. New patterns in the range are designed to be installed in a variety of patterns allowing for a customised finish. Flotex has 70 million fibres per m2 which the company claims provides a soft and warm textured surface whilst being 100% waterproof.

Slip-resistant safety flooring

Commercial and residential vinyl flooring manufacturer Polyflor has launched Polysafe Verona PUR, an addition to their range of decorative safety flooring. The company claims that a specially engineered emboss and unique matt finish combine to create a product that looks like a smooth vinyl while offering effective slip resistance. The range is available in 18 shades that are suitable for  both traditional safety flooring locations as well as the more design-led, high visibility areas within commercial and residential settings. Verona achieved 36+ on the Pendulum wet test and is fully compliant with HSE Guidelines and the EN 13845 50,000 cycles abrasion test

Access flooring

Nearly 20,000m² of Kingspan access flooring has been installed at Balfour Beatty鈥檚 Sixty London at 60 Holborn Viaduct project. Kingspan was chosen to supply and install 18,300m² of RMG panels and 1,300m² of DRF heavy grade panels in order to contribute towards the BREEAM 鈥淓xcellent鈥� status of the building. The company鈥檚 panels have FSC Chain of Custody certification and Kingspan recycled all panel off-cuts so that they could be put back into the manufacturing process.

Raised floor system

Knauf GIFAfloor is being used in the refurbishment of No 1 Embankment Place. The retrofitting programme has been designed to bring the 1980s office building up to 21st century standards with a BREEAM 鈥淥utstanding鈥� rating. Knauf GIFAfloor was chosen by TFA Interior Projects as a replacement for wet screed. TFA says that the interlocking boards are easy to handle, speeding up the construction programme. The GIFA floor system is a partial-access raised floor system which provides the ability to run services under the floor. A tongue and groove design results in a flat and smooth surface once installed meaning that joints will not track through the applied finish.

Slip-resistant paving

A recently created sensory garden at a Hertfordshire Primary School required paving with a slip-resistant environmentally friendly system. RonaDeck EcoPath MT met project requirements as the system was able to provide a decorative and functional surface for the school. The open matrix of the resin bound aggregate surface allows water to drain, eliminating water ponding and allowing water to drain to planted areas or land drains. RonaDeck EcoPath MT comprises RonaDeck EcoPath MT Resin, a two component moisture tolerant epoxy resin which binds aggregate and recycled vulcanised rubber granules.

Foamed concrete

Propump Engineering鈥檚 foamed concrete has been used to create a thermally-efficient foundation and ground slab to a student-led Passivhaus project in Dundee. The studio is the UK鈥檚 first 鈥渙ff-grid鈥� building powered entirely by renewable energy and has been designed by the University of Dundee鈥檚 Macro Micro Studio. Propump supplied 600kg/m³ wet density foamed concrete, which was pumped into a 1m deep slab to insulate the dwelling. Propump鈥檚 foamed concrete is produced with densities as low as 375kg/m3 in situ which, the company claims, provides exceptional thermal insulation. Set to be tested in real scenarios over a period of four years, the studio is open to the public to educate visitors on the relationship between user behaviour and technical performance.

Linoleum flooring

Marmorette linoleum flooring from Gerflor has been specified as part of a 拢16m refurbishment at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary University Tower. Glasgow-based Armitage Associates chose Gerflor鈥檚 Marmorette linoleum due to the green credentials and colour availability of the product. Gerflor supplied 4,000m虏 of Marmorette from their DLW Linoleum range for the building, which hosts a mixture of laboratories, offices and medical teaching facilities for the hospital and Glasgow University. Marmorette鈥檚 range of colours was used to create visual appeal and identifiable areas within the building. Marmorette is available in three thicknesses, 2mm, 2.5mm, and 3.2mm, and has 51 choices in its palette.
