Zed Factory has produced the LandArk, a timber-framed structure that swoops up like a ship’s hull to provide outdoor storage space
The structure has been designed to sit on compacted hardcore foundations. The timber frame has been designed to be assembled using traditional joinery techniques and requires no metal fixings. According to Matthew Hoad, the designer, the entire frame can be brought to site on six pallets and assembled by four people using nothing more than a mallet. One potential application is to provide accommodation in disaster relief, as well as holiday accommodation, an office or even a home. The LandArk is designed for high thermal performance, and has the potential to meet level six of the Code for Sustainable Homes. Additional thermal mass can be provided by using concrete tiles on the floor. LED lighting is run on a 24V electrical system connected to photovoltaics.
