Icopal has launched Therm’X, a three-in-one membrane for pitched roofs
The BBA and NHBC-approved, Part L-compliant membrane is part of Icopal’s Eco-Activ range, which is watertight, vapour permeable and insulates against heat gain in the summer and heat loss in the winter.
It comprises a reflective breather membrane on the outside, a reflective barrier on the inside and a sandwich of insulating quilt, designed to complement insulation in pitched roofs.
According to the company, research has shown that using Therm’X reduces radiant summer heat gain by between 4°C and 9°C.
The ultraviolet-resistant reflective outer surface reflects infrared rays during the summer, while the reflective inner surface and the integrated mat insulation helps to improve thermal performance. Part L compliancy is achieved by taping overlaps with Therm’X tape to provide convection-tight construction with up to 30% less air leakage, the company says.
Therm’X’s vapour permeability is resistant to wind-driven rain and snow while allowing water vapour to pass into the tiled area outside, reducing moisture in the roof and controlling the risk of condensation.
