Interlocking blocks from Durisol have been used in the construction of the New Horizon Youth Centre in King’s Cross. Because they are stacked like Lego, skilled bricklayers are not required, which made it easier for the centre’s users to help with the construction
The blocks are made from 80% recycled wood which gives them a low embodied energy. U-values of 0.19W/m2K are standard and values of 0.15W/m2K to 0.10W/m2K are easily achievable, according to the company.
The blocks are suitable for internal and external walls as well as basements and as no laying skills are required, there is an estimated cost saving of 30% compared with traditional building methods.
