The latest workload round-up shows which regions are prospering 鈥� and which firms are benefiting.
Workload in the East Midlands, North-west and South-east soared in the first quarter of 1999, but Glenigan鈥檚 quarterly survey reveals a more mixed picture in other areas of the UK.To qualify for the tables, projects must: be of precisely calculated or confirmed value have reached the main contract stage be valued at 拢500 000 or more be in the UK. Residential, civil engineering and overseas projects are excluded. Student accommodation is included.
A strong performance by Wilson Bowden, which won 拢71.3m worth of contracts in the East Midlands, saw the region鈥檚 workload jump to 拢125.8 from 拢29.2m in the previous quarter.
Tarmac took pole position in the North-west with 拢65m of work, resulting in regional workload rising to 拢139.8m, up from 拢63.3m in the last quarter of 1998.
Bowmer & Kirkland topped the South-east league, and, at 拢218.9m, workload in the region was well up on the previous quarter鈥檚 拢112.7m.
HBG Construction鈥檚 拢81.5m worth of work in Scotland topped the national league of work won, but the overall figure for workload in Scotland, 拢149.4m, was down on the previous quarter鈥檚 拢184.3m.
The downturn was repeated in the North-east, Yorkshire, Wales, the South-west and London.
