King Sturge has tried to stay ahead of the curve on sustainability in the last ten years, and in 2004, produced its first edition of European Property Sustainability Matters.
This year鈥檚 edition is sub-titled places, people, investment values and the law which sums up the reality of what 鈥渟ustainability鈥 means. For instance, it looks at the role of retail development in creating suburban regeneration 鈥 which relates to socio-sustainability. It also charts the introduction of Energy Performance Certificates across the European Union 鈥 country by country 鈥 which relates to economic sustainability.
This report, working with Urban Land Institute, also clarifies the 鈥渒ey principles of sustainable urban development鈥. It demonstrates that green wash, and saving carbon dioxide, are only part of the challenge; an urban environment which is sustainable into the future is the real challenge, but also the market鈥檚 opportunity.
