The expansion masterplan for Heathrow airport unveiled last week was the product of a most unusual design team – a multidisciplinary alliance of 800 individuals

‘At the outset, we had some real issues with territorial stuff: ‘We have the world’s best expertise,’ ‘No, we have the world’s best expertise,’” says Barry Weekes, head of design for Heathrow airport, remembering back to when he first formed the innovative alliance behind the airport’s new masterplan for £32.5bn of works. “All multidisciplinaries come with a belief they can do everything.”
