Sir Robert McAlpine
A true industry giant, in 2012 Sir Robert McAlpine will have its chance to really shine as the eyes of the world look to the Olympic park and the Olympic stadium in particular. A structure completed under budget and two months early, this is the year that this contractor鈥檚 flagship project will come to life. But it鈥檚 not just the glamorous projects that the firm delivers to such a high standard. The M74 completion project - one of Scotland鈥檚 largest civil engineering schemes at 8km long - was delivered eight months early, while the widening of the M1 between junctions 25 and 28 was also completed under budget and five months early. Proof that delivering schemes quickly and efficiently does not have mean having to compromise on quality.
