Amid the recent spate of on-site deaths, we ask: do you think fines for negligence are strong enough?
This summer, seven construction workers have been killed in separate accidents over a two week period. The findings of an inquiry into one of those incidents was handed down last week, and the company which was found to be negligent in its safety checks was fined £50,000 - the same amount as another UK company was fined five years ago for a mobile phone spamming scam.
Meanwhile, the families of nine workers killed in a 2004 factory explosion have declared the fine of £400,000 against the company responsible as "inadequate".
There is an argument that each case must be taken in context, but there are also those who suggest that punishments should be higher to force industry to take safety more seriously.
