The first office building clad in Accoya – a modified softwood – has been unveiled in Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
The GoGo Tours office building features 40m3 of Accoya cladding, planed and edge laminated into panels before being given a white translucent finish.
Accoya was chosen for its stability and the absence of cracks in the wood, which makes it more durable. Accoya is made using wood from sustainable plantations which undergoes a process that increases the amount of acetyl molecules present in the wood. This, claims the company, protects wood from rot, without making it toxic.
