ONS to republish construction output at 4.30pm today after admiting 2.3% growth rate published this morning was too high
The Official National Statistics has admitted it published the wrong figure for construction output this morning.
It had announced that construction output had increased by 2.3% in the second quarter, but said at lunchtime that a maths error had resulted in the output figure being overstated.
In a statement it said: 鈥淭he impact of the error is to overstate the published headline Q2/Q1 growth of 2.3%.鈥
The ONS said it was recalucating the data and would publish the correct figures at 4.30pm this afternoon.
The size of the construction industry means output figures have a significant bearing on GDP. The erroneous growth rate announced this morning meant that GDP growth in Q2 was revised from 0.2 to 0.3%.
