Why bother with the Green Deal when the benefits just aren鈥檛 that great?
The trouble is renewable energy production isn鈥檛 profitable without subsidies, so why would any company just spend money (鈥溾, 3 June)? Government is stuck because of increasing resistance to escalating energy bills when for voters there is no tangible benefit. The Green Deal is a slightly better idea in that the cost has to be equal to or less than the money savings. But is that really an incentive when your house effectively has a legal charge put on it? You don鈥檛 actually benefit because the cost savings are diverted to the loan repayment. Why bother?
