National Trust鈥檚 stance is a matter of debate

In your article On the Move (22 March, page 22) you mention that Simon Jenkins and the National Trust are 鈥渃harged to protect rural areas from development鈥� but this, as a general statement, does not appear to be true.

The Trust does an excellent job of looking after many important buildings and areas of countryside and I have been a member for many years. I can find nothing though in its stated objectives about an anti-development role and it seems to me to be a misrepresentation to suggest, without much better evidence, that its 3.7 million members support such a stance.
