I got the impression from your article "When walls have ears" (5 September, pages 56-57) that the industry was suggesting a radical new approach, but a method of robust standard details has been working successfully in Scotland for years under the term "deemed to satisfy".
The article implied that the industry was doing us all a favour and the thought of builders worrying about paying for their own poor workmanship made me laugh.

And another thing: noisy neighbours won't be a thing of the past because even the robust details are only a minimum standard and will not stop a modern stereo played to excess. I would have had more respect for the industry if it had said that it would do better than the minimum standard.
