The trouble with advocates of single-stage competitive tendering and the collaborative crowd, is that they are both coming from the extreme end of their respective spectrums

What is really needed is the position in the middle, where we can do what comes naturally (to construction firms and to the British!), and if we are going to fight, learn how to fight productively.

Disagreements, contention and discomfort are an inherent necessary part of any healthy relationship (business or personal). Learning to be at ease and not threatened by fighting fairly towards a joint victory takes great skill, charisma and courage, but in practice it is relatively simple – not necessarily easy – but simple none the less.
