The quote in your article “Choose Wisely” (16 November, page 72) was inaccurate – we had won the RIBA’s Brooks Road Low Rise housing competition run for Newham council.

We were disappointed because Newham decided to opt for the scheme placed second before hearing the RIBA’s recommendation.

And the Greenwich Meridian business and marketing centre was indeed an invited competition with a small bursary. I understand that we came second to Chris Dyson Architects. We were disappointed to hear that this project was shelved in favour of a more traditional approach to on site marketing suites. Clearly, budget is always an issue in this respect, but despite the inevitable let-downs, it’s always a pleasure working on competitions that explore the possibilities and benefits of design.

For us, competitions are an essential and long-term part of our practice’s growth – especially the growth of the individuals that make up Piercy Conner.
