Following the story “Family of dead woman calls for carbon monoxide alarms” (25 April, page 23), if Barratt did use Corgi-registered installers then they should be contacted and the other work they’ve done checked.

CO alarms should be considered “death” alarms, not health alarms. CO Gas Safety (www.co-gassafety.co.uk) is an independent registered charity that has been lobbying since 1995 for a levy on the industry to raise awareness of the dangers of and promote research into CO.

The Health and Safety Commission recommended a levy on suppliers in 2000 and that the gas emergency service carry equipment to test appliances for CO. Why haven’t these implemented?
