I have worked as a QS, mainly in private practice, for 21 years now. Maybe I am a little sceptical.

I understand there is a skills shortage but your article 鈥淧ut this job on your CV and it鈥檒l set you up for life鈥� (16 February, page 58) implies that all you need to do to succeed is work on a large project.

I worked on a measured-term contract early in my career, on numerous small projects and this taught a great deal more than when I worked on large projects, although this was after I had qualified.

The 鈥済et it now鈥� ethos isn鈥檛 teaching anyone the right way. Perhaps you could publish a similar article on how putting a job on your CV ruined careers 鈥� Scottish parliament, Wembley, Bath Spa ...
