I have worked as a QS, mainly in private practice, for 21 years now. Maybe I am a little sceptical.

I understand there is a skills shortage but your article 鈥淧ut this job on your CV and it鈥檒l set you up for life鈥 (16 February, page 58) implies that all you need to do to succeed is work on a large project.

I worked on a measured-term contract early in my career, on numerous small projects and this taught a great deal more than when I worked on large projects, although this was after I had qualified.

The 鈥済et it now鈥 ethos isn鈥檛 teaching anyone the right way. Perhaps you could publish a similar article on how putting a job on your CV ruined careers 鈥 Scottish parliament, Wembley, Bath Spa ...
