Scheme has been designed by local firm FMJT and is aimed at postgraduates
The joint venture behind the revamp of a university science park outside Oxford on which Mace is expected to carry out the first phase of work has unveiled plans to build dozens of new homes elsewhere in the county.
Oxford University Development was set up in June 2019 by the university and Legal & General and is planning new homes for staff and students, incubator space and academic facilities under a £4bn plan.
The developer said it wants to create thousands of new homes in and around the city to attract and retain talent.
Now it has unveiled proposals by Oxford architect FJMT Studio for 84 new homes in Iffley, just south of Oxford.
It is the first residential site to be delivered through the partnership with the homes at Court Palace Gardens aimed at postgraduates and their families.
Others working on the scheme include Berkshire contractor Feltham, project manager and QS Cast, structural engineer Price & Myers and M&E engineer Qoda.
The new homes will replace those built in the 1970s and are set to be ready in time for the 2024/25 academic year.
Oxford University Development is planning a huge expansion of the Begbroke Science Park, north of the city, which will see 2,000 homes built at the site along with a hotel, restaurant, bars, cafes, shops, educational, community and sports facilities.
Phase 1, thought to be worth around £50m, involves two new buildings to provide a total of up to 12,500 sq m of lab and office space. This phase will include new teaching facilities for the university’s mathematical, physical and life sciences departments.
One of the new buildings will be reserved for university use, while the other will be leased to commercial tenants.
