Galliford Try is main contractor on £45m scheme
Wates’ M&E arm SES Engineering Services has scored a role alongside main contractor Galliford Try on a £45m sports hub for Leeds Beckett University.
SES has been appointed to design and install a full range of building services on the university’s new Carnegie Teaching and Research ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉúTV, which will house its Carnegie School of Sport at its Headingley campus.
Galliford Try was handed the demolition and building work contracts in June last year.
The building, which has been designed by Sheppard Robson, will also include a hypoxic laboratory, a health and wellbeing studio, an indoor 60m sprint track for performance training and analysis and a roof walker track and terrace.
There is also an enhanced strength and conditioning space as well as changing and recovery facilities.
The scheme was given planning permission in May 2018, while construction of the facility is due to wrap up in autumn 2019.
The sports centre is just one part of a wider £200m programme the university is carrying out to revamp its campuses.
Last January, Liverpool firm George Downing Construction began work to build a new £80m arts building for the university.
It is set to complete the building in September 2020 which has been designed by Hawkins Brown.
