1970s Gascoigne Estate being replaced with 850 homes
Wates has won more work for an east London council’s regeneration company with a deal to build more than 300 homes in Barking.
The latest job is to build 334 homes, designed by HTA, for Be First at the ongoing redevelopment of the 1970s built Gascoigne Estate which has now been demolished.
Wates recently completed 201 homes at Gascoigne West Phase 1 and is now working on the £142m Gascoigne East Phase 3B scheme to provide apartments, houses and maisonettes. Construction will start this summer and finish in 2026.
The wider Gascoigne Estate will include tree-lined public spaces, a new 5,000 sq m park, along with public art.
The 850 home development has been split into five phases with other firms working on the scheme including Willmott Dixon which began work on a further 102 homes at the site last November. That firm also completed the first 50 homes at the development last spring.
Be First was set up in 2017 and is wholly owned by Barking and Dagenham Council.
