Contractor wins deal to build wind turbine blade factory for Siemens in Hull
VolkerFitzpatrick has won a deal to build a wind turbine blade factory for Siemens.
The contractor鈥檚 bid for the 40,000sqm factory in Hull was the 鈥渕ost competitive and robust鈥 according to Siemens.
Construction on the project is set to begin next month and is due to be completed by autumn 2016, with around 200 jobs expected to be created during construction.
The facility will accommodate the manufacture of 75m turbine blades and the assembly, maintenance, storage and distribution of wind turbine components.
The contract also involves the construction of office accommodation and welfare facilities.
Shaun Cray, Siemens鈥 general manager for real estate and construction, said: 鈥淰olkerFitzpatrick presented the most competitive and robust bid, with strong environmental and health and safety processes, a highly experienced project team and track record to deliver the project.

VolkerFitzpatrick managing director Richard Offord said: 鈥淭his facility is a key element in establishing a new renewable energy industry in the UK, creating employment and wealth for the region.

He added that the firm is looking to employ 40% of the labour for the project from within a 50-mile radius of the factory.
