Feilden Clegg Bradley, Hawkins/Brown and Levitt Bernstein among 鈥榮easoned鈥 competitors
A group of six top architects have been shortlisted to design a refurbishment of Queen鈥檚 College鈥檚 grade-II listed Florey building in Oxford.
The shortlist consists of: Hawkins/Brown Architects; Avanti Architects; Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios ; John McAslan + Partners; Levitt Bernstein Associates and Nicholas Hare Architects.
The forty year old building, originally designed by James Stirling (pictured), is considered one of the great post-war modernist building in Britain.
Competition organiser Malcolm Reading, founder of Malcolm Reading Consultants, said he was 鈥渄elighted鈥 with the quality of responses the firm had received to its call for expressions of interest.
He added: 鈥淭hese teams are highly seasoned, astute practices who are in their prime.
鈥淭his is an extremely complex project which will require a deal of patience and skill but the renewal of the Florey will be a tremendous asset to Queen鈥檚, and indeed Oxford.鈥
The second stage submissions are due in January 2014 and a winner will be selected in February.
