Sustainability accolade awarded ahead of next week鈥檚 America鈥檚 Cup in the Solent

Sir Ben Ainslie鈥檚 America鈥檚 Cup team base in Portsmouth has achieved a BREEAM Excellent rating, ahead of the World Series competition next Friday and Saturday (22-24 July).

Ainslie, four-time Olympic gold medal-winning sailor and mastermind behind bringing the event to the Solent, said: 鈥淲e have put sustainability at the heart of everything we do at Land Rover BAR since we decided to challenge for the America鈥檚 Cup.鈥�

The team鈥檚 sustainability manager Dr Susie Tomson added: 鈥�61% of people follow sport in the US but only 13% follow science. So sport is a massive platform to engage people on global issues that will affect us all such as climate change, ocean plastics and resource depletion. The challenge is to achieve this in an engaging and innovative way.鈥�
