Architects need to resist the temptation to design energy efficient buildings that don鈥檛 give humans 鈥渄elight鈥, Make founder Ken Shuttleworth has said.
Speaking at Ecobuild, Shuttleworth said there was a danger that tools like 好色先生TV Information Modelling (BIM) could take designers away from designing for people.
鈥淚t鈥檚 really important the delight side is not forgotten in this drive of efficiency. We can鈥檛 have a load of buildings that are very efficient but nasty,鈥 he said.
While Shuttleworth was enthusiastic about BIM鈥檚 potential to drive more collaborative working 鈥 resulting in better building, he said: 鈥淲e shouldn鈥檛 lose sight of the fact that we are designing for future generations not for now.鈥
鈥淲e need to create amazing places and beautiful buildings and remember that we are crafting light and crafting spaces.鈥
He said too often professionals assumed BIM programmes would 鈥渄esign the thing for you鈥 when traditional craft methods of modelling and sketching were still essential.
