Group-wide revenue at French giant also rose above 2019 figure
Profit at the construction arm of Bouygues, which is helping build part of the HS2 railway in the Chilterns, returned to pre-pandemic levels last year.
According to the French giant’s full-year results for 2022, operating profit from activities in its construction and services business was up 10% to €918m (£809m) – and €8m (£7m) higher than 2019’s pre-pandemic figure.
Income at its largest business also increased by 9% to €30.5bn (£27bn) in 2022, driven mainly by its rail specialist Colas, which booked “significant orders” in the UK and Egypt.
Bouygues, which operates in a range of areas from construction to media and telecoms, was ravaged by strict lockdowns in its domestic market in 2020, with group-wide profit only returning to pre-pandemic levels in 2021.
Operating profit across the group increased to just under €2bn (£1.8bn) in 2022, a 16% rise on last year’s number. The firm also booked improved revenue – up 18% from €37.6bn (£33bn) in 2021 to €44.3bn (£39bn) last year.
Bouygues, which has also been working on the Hinkley Point C scheme in Somerset, and will start work this year on a new facility to replace Moorfields Eye Hospital in north London, said last summer that revenue from its UK arm was up 15% to £484m in 2021. Pre-tax profit in the same period was up 43% to £835,000.
