Silvertown developer aiming to build a mixed-use development on Tower Bridge Road
First Base, one of the developers behind the 拢3.5bn regenration of Silvertown, has submitted plans to Southwark council for a 拢137m mixed-use development near London鈥檚 Tower Bridge.
Designed by Arney Fender Katsalidis, the 0.9 acre site on Tower Bridge Road will provide 69 homes, a 137-bed hotel and over 10,000sqft of commercial space.
The development will be focussed around a new landscaped public square and creates a new public walkway linking Bermondsey to the river.
First Base director Barry Jessup said: 鈥淭his is an exciting opportunity to revitalise an under-utilised site in one of London鈥檚 most dynamic neighbourhoods.
鈥淥ur proposals will deliver much needed new homes in a community setting, with a mix of cafes, restaurants and workspace that respond to the needs of local businesses and residents. It will also re-establish pedestrian routes from Bermondsey to the river, helping to extend this vibrancy of Bermondsey High Street south. We look forward to working with Southwark Council to bring forward our plans.鈥
Earl Arney, chief executive of Arney Fender Katsalidis, commented: 鈥淲e are delighted with our collaboration with First Base and the design vision we share for Southwark. 151-157 Tower Bridge Road is a project of urban repair at both the architectural and urban scale.
鈥淓xisting structures are adaptively reused, which elevate the sustainability of the development while raw and robust materials are employed to connect with the warehouse grain of Old Bermondsey. A new square at the heart of the development creates a civic heart for the local community and the potential of a green pedestrian spine linking St Mary Magdalen Churchyard Gardens to City Hall is established for the Borough. We look forward to developing the designs and contributing positively to this wonderful neighbourhood.鈥
