Simon Wyatt explains why to understand your carbon footprint you need to look at all green house gases
How do we define net zero in the construction industry? Most professionals refer to the life cycle modules in the RICS assessments when trying to improve performance. However, Simon Wyatt, our net zero jargon buster for this series, argues that when trying to understand a firm’s entire carbon footprint the Greenhouse Gas Protocol can help to provide the bigger picture on emissions.
He explains how the protocol breaks emissions into Scope 1 (direct use of fossil fuels), Scope 2 (indirect use of fossil fuels for energy such as electricity), and Scope 3 (all other indirect emissions including transportation, waste, purchased goods and services, investments).
For our subscribers only, we have an extended version of the interview which you can access now via the player above and below.
Listen to Wyatt talk about why Scope 3 is proving so challenging and why it is important to consider not just carbon but all green house gases and their impacts.
