Contractor set to deliver a new secondary school and leisure centre for mixed-use project
Morgan Sindall has been chosen to deliver the first phase of a £385m mixed-use scheme for Hackney Council.
The firm’s construction and infrastructure business has been chosen as the preferred bidder for the phase one of the project, which will see the contractor deliver a leisure centre, a secondary school and a new public square.
Th contractor was chosen for the project, which will sit next to Shoreditch Park and be bordered by Pitfield Street and Hyde Road, via the Southern Construction Framework.
The new school will feature a sixth form and deliver a total of 1,100 school places.
The new leisure centre will feature a six-lane, 25m pool, a six-court sports hal, four squash courts, two five-a-side pitches and two tennis courts.
According to a council timeline for the project, construction on the leisure centre and school is expected to begin in spring 2019 and wrap up in 2021.
As part of the overall scheme, the council also plans to deliver 481 homes, 81 of which will be affordable.
The council hopes to build the affordable home offering concurrently with the delivery of phase one, while the remaining 400 will be delivered in phase two of the scheme.
