Contractor named preferred bidder for Green Deal scheme in the Southampton region
Contractor Mitie has been named as the preferred bidder for the £1bn Southampton Green Deal job.
The programme will last up to seven years and see the firm leverage money from the government’s Energy Companies Obligation scheme and the Green Deal to conduct energy efficiency retrofit work across the Solent region.
It will also be required to do work which qualifies for other central government funding streams such as the solar electricity feed-in-tariff (FIT) and the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI).
The role includes marketing the scheme, surveying properties, managing the supply chain, delivering employment opportunities, performance monitoring, securing funding and partnering arrangements.
Mitie has been appointed for an initial 19 months with the view to extending the contract for a further five and a half years following a review of costs to the council and Mitie’s performance.
The firm said the initial contract was worth £30m.
